Max and Elly turned 4 years old on Sunday so on Monday they got to have a birthday party with their classmates at school. What better way to kick off the week than to pump a bunch of preschoolers full of sugar!
And surely it’s a totally fine idea to let a 4-year-old cut their own birthday cake!
Max was pretty excited about that cake!
With the cake cut it was time for the obligatory feeding of cake tradition that I’ve mentioned previously here and here.
And as a bonus photo here’s a close-up of the birthday cake since I fancy myself the Cake Boss of Tanzania!

Dear Brenda, I first saw your story on HHI and love to see how God has blessed your family. My son in law Patrick Kalunga is from Angola and I have a dream to visit Africa one day! My daughter and I are cake decorators/ bakery mgrs and your cakes are really great!!
Hi Brenda, Just read your article “Finding Room for Sabbath” in the September issue of Gather. Brought back memories of our time together through LWR and Women of the ELCA. I do believe that the retreat house near Kilimanjaro was where we stayed and the funny story of me being left on the bus. So many stories to share in all the trips you took with LWR and WELCA. Finding rest in Sabbath is true in every step of our lives. Maybe more so as I grow into senior-hood. You continue to be a blessing to all around you as, we sisters in Christ, continue our faith walk together. There was a saying in a “tuck in card” that I use to have. “In my Father’s house are many mansions. I hope that we are neighbors someday!” I continue to hold you in my heart and in my prayers. Hello Brenda. My name is Molly Davis. I have searched for you for a while now and I am so happy to see that you have a blog. I recently returned from Tanzania to Florida and I have not only fallen in love with the country, people and life there but also with a man. I am looking to return in June and I am also strongly considering moving there full time with my daughters. I visited Saint Constantine International School but I am also looking into a small private school in Mto wa mbu where we would like to live.
